I was struck by the juxtaposition of two headlines on the South China Morning Post website this morning. One says

Makes perfect sense. Force will be used against anyone who doubts the veracity of their 500-year-old maps showing they own various oil-rich islets, while internal bickering will forever prevent China accepting, or usurping, the role of global policeman.
